Excimer Laser Technique
What is Excimer Laser?
"Excimer" is a word produced by combining the words "excited" and "dimer", and Excimer Laser is a laser that emits 193nm ultraviolet light obtained by stimulating argon and fluoride gases. Initially used in the plastics industry and the production of electronic integrated circuits, this laser, with its precision, caught the attention of the medical world and was first used in America in 1988 for the treatment of myopia on seeing eyes.
What are the features of Excimer Laser?
If you have read the explanations of refractive errors such as myopia and hyperopia on this site, you will remember that changes in the anterior-posterior length of the eye and the curvature of the cornea cause these conditions. The only way to completely eliminate these defects is to change the corneal curvature, since we cannot change the length of the eye (at least for now). We can do this by using Excimer Laser, the most precise scalpel found by mankind.
Excimer Laser shaves by breaking the molecular bonds in the corneal tissue and gives the cornea a new shape, just like a sculptor sculpts his statue. It performs this process with very high precision. Each touch of the Excimer Laser on the cornea shaves 0.25 microns of tissue (one 400th of the thickness of a human hair).
Our Laser Devices

Allegretto-Wavelight Eye-Q
The Wave Light - Allegretto Excimer Laser Device (Germany) we use is a new generation and has superior features.
It performs the correction with a 0.95 mm diameter flying spot laser beam.
Its speed is quite high compared to other lasers (500Hz), and thanks to its fast treatment ability, it provides a smoother treatment surface. It also has a special scanning tracking system (eye - tracker). Even if the patient moves his/her eye during treatment, the treatment continues uninterrupted.
In addition, the ability to adjust the rotation of the eye around its central axis (cyclotorsion) and the kappa angle (the angle between the center of the pupil and the visual axis) also ensures that the treatment is performed in the correct area. Thanks to the improved software, in addition to being able to perform Wavefront guided, topography guided special treatments, it allows us to obtain good results in both myopes and hyperopes by using the wavefront optimized profile instead of the standard treatment in other devices. Problems such as blurry vision and difficulty in night vision are eliminated thanks to this new generation laser.
